Elliott Tait

BIO

D. Elliott Tait comes to Andrews after 12 years of service at South Carolina Legal Services. There, he fought for survivors of domestic violence in Family Court, helping them keep custody of their children, secure financial support from their abusers, and ultimately start new lives free from the cycle of violence. He was also the Education Unit Head at Legal Services, where he was responsible for litigating cases against school districts for failing to provide appropriate services to children with special needs. Elliott continues to be a sought-after speaker, writer and litigator on education law matters, especially those involving special education and IEPs.

Before law school, Elliott lived and worked in Bolivia, South America for two years. There, he became fluent in Spanish and fell in love with the Latin culture and people. His love of the Latino community and his desire to fight for the marginalized people in the world pushed him to attend law school.

In law school, Elliott was an active member of the Pro Bono Board, the Moot Court Bar, and won distinctions for his excellent appellate work by being inducted in the Moot Court Order of Barristers. He also clerked for the US Department of Justice and volunteered with the South Carolina Victim Assistance Network, where he helped immigrant victims of crime navigate the American legal system for the first time.

Elliott brings warmth, energy and kindness to his work. He cares deeply about his clients and gives them compassionate and direct counsel. Elliott works hard to resolve matters amicably and, if the court need to be involved, enjoys advocating and litigating to help his clients accomplish their goals.
